Arriving at Archerfield at 7:45 am, we meet as a group at the Archerfield historic passenger terminal and have a quick safety presentation. In no time at all, we have everyone aboard the aircraft and are on the way to our first destination.
The first stop on the tour is Lightning Ridge, home of the rare black opal and artesian bore baths. We’ll visit the site of the early miners’ settlement, the Lunatic Hill Open Cut (the largest open cut opal mine in NSW) and see inside a real-life former working mine,
Tibooburra is our final destination today, staying at the Tibooburra Hotel. Originally built during 1882 during the Australian gold rush, it has withstood the test of time (and renovations!) to offer folk a taste of history and a lush cold beer at their iconic pub.
-
We leave William Creek at dawn and head for northern Lake Eyre to see the sunrise over the lake. This is a wonderful time to see Lake Eyre, and note that any water present has travelled all the way from far north Queensland! The landscape now changes to that of the channel country and the Strzelecki Desert. Next, we land at Nappa Merrie to view the famous Dig Tree of Burke and Wills.
After the Dig Tree we board for a quick flight to Innamincka, where there’s another iconic pub of the outback. Time for morning tea before heading to our special accommodation for this evening: Toogunna Plains Farmstay. Here we’ll have the opportunity to see how a working cattle and sheep property operates, and stay in their huts filled with rustic charm and private ensuites.

After breakfast on the farm we make our way to our last destination on the tour, Charleville. In Charleville we visit the bilbies at a special nocturnal house, have lunch at the historic Corones Hotel, and then finish up at the WW2 Secret Base. Sadly, it’s now time to head home and back to Archerfield Airport.
Thanks for joining us as we explore this great country and hope to see you again in the sky!
