  • Arriving at Archerfield at 8:00 am, we meet as a group at the Archerfield historic passenger terminal and have a quick safety presentation. In no time at all, we have everyone aboard the aircraft and are on the way to our first destination.

The first stop on the tour is St George. We lunch at the Riversands Vineyard a local winery and a tour of a local cotton farm.

Cunnamulla is our final destination today, staying at the Cunnamulla Boutique Hotel. On arrival, we do a get to know tour around the town and the All Aboard Cunnamulla tour. Get settled in and take a stroll down the main street.

  • Departing Cunnamulla we have a short fuel stop in Thargomindah before we then fly directly to the airstrip at Arkaroola. You are now truly outback, back of beyond …! How many ways can you say middle of no where?

On arrival in Arkaroola we enjoy a quick lunch before joining our 4WD Ridgetop tour. This is a unique insight into all things Flinders Ranges. On your return there is lots still to do at Arkaroola: take a short bushwalk - walks varying from 1.5km to 8km rated easy going. See the local rock wallabies, enjoy a sunset drink. We will be star gazing after dinner. The view of the night sky is just spectacular.

  • The scenery of the ranges is awe-inspiring and we make the best use of the aircraft to view this area on departure from Balcanoona. We set course for Marree for lunch and a town tour. After lunch we set a course for Lake Eyre! Are cameras ready? While flying along the Birdsville Track we will encounter the lake, a beautiful and alien landscape. We cover the eastern and southern ends of the lake on this day. Did you spot the Maree Man west of Maree?

After this unbelievable experience, we travel to the isolated William Creek, an outpost in the very far outback and will spend the night here at the William Creek Hotel. Take a moment to reflect on the hardship of our early pioneers.

  • We rise early today to leave William Creek just on sun rise so you can see the Lake in a different light and angle. We travel north up the west of the lake and then to the channel country that feeds the lake to the north. We arrive at Birdsville, and from the airport can see the world-famous Birdsville Pub just a stroll across the street. You will enjoy a tour of the area and morning tea on Big Red with a local who has all the best stories.

After lunch at the Birdsville Bakery where you can try their famous camel pie, we relax with a drink at the Birdsville Pub before heading to Winton, our overnight destination. We try to arrive in time for you to enjoy a stroll around town and the Waltzing Matilda Museum if you desire. This cost is not included in the tour due to timings not always working. Alternatively, relax at the North Gregory Hotel, another iconic pub of the outback and good for a cold one. Arno’s wall is a short stroll from the back of the North Gregory.

  • After breakfast, we board our tour van for The Age of Dinosaurs Museum and immersion in all things dinosaurs. The area around Winton is renowned for dinosaur fossils and they love to tell you the story. Lunch is back in Winton at another iconic pub the Tattersalls.

In the afternoon we fly to Longreach. Enjoy a town tour of Longreach before departing on a cruise of the Thomson River and a camp-oven themed dinner under stars with live outback entertainment.

Tonight we retire to the Saltbrush Lodge (or the Albert Park Motor Inn). Enjoy the rustic and comfortable rooms, enjoy an outdoor bath if you dare!

  • After a delicious breakfast and exploring Longreach town centre we head to the Stockman’s Hall of Fame Museum and live show.

For lunch we head to the Qantas Museum Cafe, then explore, touch and experience first hand the marvels of aviation history in Australia at the Qantas museum. Note the tour only includes the museum, if you want to do a wing walk etc talk with your tour guide in advance.

Following the museum tour we depart for Brisbane, with a quick comfort/fuel stop in Taroom or Roma, depending on the aircraft being flown. Contrast the green of the coast with the previous days outback. Arriving just after dark, we get to enjoy the beautiful lights that make up Brisbane at night.

Unfortunately, all good trips have to come to an end but we invite you to join us at a later date, which we will set before we all depart, to share photos and reminisce.

“I had a great time exploring the Australian interior on this trip. James is a very safe pilot and tried to give us the best view and aerial photo opportunities. Accommodation and meals were of a good standard from what can be expected in remote areas. The Arkoroola, Lake Eyre, Winton & Longreach air safari with BFC is highly recommended.”

— Rob Hornsby

“What a fantastic 6 day trip! Exceeded our expectations for scenery, experiences, customer service and care. The professional BFC team of James and Caroline ensured a quality experience in a friendly, no fuss manner. To see the outback by air was truly beautiful and for our trip, extra special as due to recent rains, the countryside was so green. Arkaroola is a truly special location! We have just returned from the most amazing 6 days flying to areas we would never have had the time to see other ways. It was a fantastic way to travel and experience parts of our vast country. The vast outback scenescapes, and the local people we met were the highlights for us. James was a wonderful pilot and guide who provided experiences beyond our expectations. Would highly recommend this company to all.
— Kathryn Bruce
Our sincere thanks to James and Carolyn from Brisbane Flight Charters for the most incredible air safari adventure through outback Queensland and South Australia. Travelling by plane is the most spectacular way to see our beautiful country, and the tours, accommodation and food were marvellous. We cannot wait for our next air safari!
— Jane Jeays
A wonderful air safari with like minded people was enabled by BFC flight charters. Superb scenery from the air, interesting land tours were catered for. Totally recommended.
— Julie Russ
Our Outback Air Safari was amazing. The distances travelled and the ever changing landscapes could not be experienced sitting in a car or bus for hours on end. James instilled great confidence in the aircraft and himself as pilot. Accommodation was first class, for meals you could have whatever you wanted and the ground tours were well organised. Flying over Lake Eyre at sunrise was spectacular. The perfect end on our last flight into Brisbane was a full moon rising on one side while the sun was setting on the other. Don’t hesitate, just go and enjoy this beautiful country of ours. Thank you James and Carolyn, we will fly with you again.
